i guess i'm a little late... but i was thinking about valentine's day yesterday mostly about how i hear so many people complaining about this day that is supposed to be a day full of love. i may be very biased because i grew up always loving valentine's day. my favorite part was making our cards each year, we have a box, that i smile thinking about, full of stickers and pink and red paper and heart shaped things and doilies and the world was ours to create. for everyone in my class, every year. later, missy and i would help mom make a heart shaped german chocolate cake decorated with pink icing. i have fond memories of running to the door to meet dad with roses, eating in the dining room with candles and getting to open cards and treat bags filled with candy and mostly cute little trinkets mom had found for us. then lighting pink candles and digging in. this holiday was full of love for me from the beginning so its never been about having a significant other, its always been about having special people who love you and care for you to celebrate in your life.
getting to my point. people get in a tizzy about the cheesiness or the materialism that often surrounds this holiday, and sure i think we should show those we love how much we love them all the time, but hey if people want to go out and spend money on love, why not? in my opinion there's much worse things people could be spending their money on. so really i love that we have this holiday. why not take a chance to celebrate all the love around you, single or not somewhere there is someone who loves you, so don't forget about them. on valentine's day and on any day. xoxo.
